Clare Foster
Clare Foster trained as an opera singer and moved to the Camden Haven in the 1940s. She sang in countless concerts, weddings and charity events, and received first place in eisteddfods in Taree and Kempsey. She was also a great organiser of musical and theatrical events. As a founding member of the Camden Haven Arts Council, Clare was a strong contributor to the cultural life of the whole district from her arrival until her death in 2002.
What is the Clare Foster Memorial Scholarship?
The Clare Foster Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance for music students to participate in development opportunities that extend their musical skills and advance their long term aspirations in music.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Residents of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government Area who are aged between 12 and 20 years of age, and who are music students who can demonstrate a high level of achievement and/or potential in music performance.
What Costs can be covered by the Scholarship?
The Scholarship may be used for:
- course registration and/or tuition fees
- travel and accommodation associated with the above
- purchase of a musical instrument or musical equipment including sheet music

How do I Apply?
Applications for 2010 are now open, for projects to take place 1 July for the ensuing 12 month period.

All applicants must complete the Application Package, obtainable from your school, music teacher or by contacting the Scholarship Secretary on 65848434 .

What Happens After I Apply?
When your application is received, it will be assessed by the Scholarship Committee, along with other applications in that round.
If successful, you will be required at the end of the Scholarship, to provide a report on your activities and a financial acquittal of the Scholarship funds provided. (The final 10% of the scholarship amount will be paid once these are provided).
Retrospective funding is not provided.
How is the Scholarship Funded?
The Scholarship is primarily funded by donations from the public, which are tax-deductible over $2. In addition Camden Haven Arts Council Inc has committed an annual amount to the Scholarship Fund until such time as public donations are sufficient to sustain the Scholarship. Country Energy has generously sponsored the Scholarship since its inception in 2006 and has agreed to maintain that sponsorship up to and including 2010.
