A remarkable young singer with a great future ahead of her has been awarded Camden Haven Arts Council’s Clare Foster Memorial Scholarship for 2007.   Alexandria Siegers was selected from eleven eligible applicants and her application received the highest rating by all eight members of the selection panel.

Alexandria has been selected as one of forty young people across Australia to tour  Canada, France and the UK with the national children’s choir, Gondwana Voices.   The Scholarship funds will assist her with expenses associated with the tour.

A Year 9 student at St Columba Anglican School Port Macquarie, Alex is studying 6th Grade piano, 6th grade voice and 6th grade musicianship outside of her extensive music program at school which includes the senior choir, Intombi Zicula ensemble and playing flute in the school’s concert band.

From the age of 7 she has participated in eisteddfods in solo voice, piano and drama and in a range of choral ensembles and choirs across many regions and states of Australia, gaining a string of first places and commendations. Earlier this year she performed in her school production of Godspell and a local production of Pirates of Penzance.

In awarding the Scholarship to Alex, Camden Haven Arts Council president Dr Barry Filshie commented that “while the Scholarship attracted a very high standard of applicants this year, Alex was selected because of her outstanding potential to make a future successful career as a professional performer, and that her teachers were all unreserved in their praise and recommendations”.

“The Clare Foster Memorial Scholarship was initiated by Camden Haven Arts Council in memory of one of its founding members, who herself was a professional musician and opera singer” explained Dr Filshie.  “Applicants must be Port Macquarie-Hastings residents between 12 and 20 years of age, who can demonstrate a high level of achievement and potential in music performance” he added.

The Clare Foster Memorial Scholarship has received financial assistance from Port Macquarie Hastings Council and Country Energy. The Arts Council’s Public Fund has been placed on the Register of Cultural Organisations, which means that donations to the Scholarship fund are tax deductible.
